The Bakery

The Bakery or, more correctly, La Boulangerie, is so-called because it provided the bread for the workers from a bread oven on the south-facing wall of the house.
Dating back 300 years and sensitively renovated by Dave and Jane in 2024, it has been repurposed as a romantic and cosy gite.

As you enter La Boulangerie through an old farmhouse door you come into the kitchen and lounge. The décor reflects the gîtes’ history as a bread oven with original pelle de boulanger en bois or wooden bread oven paddle or ‘peel’ displayed on the wall. Giant whisk, copper pans, and boulangerie pictures resonate with the building’s original function.

Now completely modernised, there is complimentary high-speed broadband across the site. The kitchen has a washing machine, dishwasher, electric cooker and hob with extractor fan, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge. There is a breakfast bar separating the kitchen and lounge. (A full list of kitchen contents and facilities can be found in the ‘equipment’ section).

Walking through into the lounge there is a double bed settee, cosy and comfortable armchair with a footstool and reading light behind. The wood burner provides a lovely focal point for relaxing evenings and the satellite TV provides you with all the usual UK and French entertainment. Your coffee table has an eclectic selection of books, should you forget your own, plus books on travel and sightseeing information in France. There is also a selection of board games.

From the lounge, a small patio door leads onto your private garden with garden tables, chairs, and sun loungers.
On the opposite side of the lounge is the door through to your bedroom. The Bakery accommodates two adults in a beautiful cathedral-ceiling bedroom with a chandelier and a king-size cosy double bed. The bedroom has views over the courtyard to the North and over the Bakery’s private garden and fields to the South. There are two restored chests for clothes storage and a hanging rail for other garments. UK plug adaptors with phone chargers in addition to the French sockets are by the side of your bed. A small hairdryer is also available. All bedding and towels are provided. There is also a basket containing extra poolside towels for use after a swim in the heated outdoor pool or for sunbathing.

There is a door leading from the bedroom to the ensuite bathroom which has a large bath with an overhead rainfall shower and glass shower screen. There is a toilet and a large basin with storage underneath and a mirror with vanity lights over. You can exit back through the bedroom or out into the kitchen.

In short, La Boulangerie provides a perfect romantic break in a historic building, a base from which to explore the Pays de la Loire, Brittany, Normandy, and beyond, or simply a relaxing place to recharge the batteries. You’ll have access to the outdoor kitchen for barbeques and outside dining. A wonderful experience on a clear night eating al fresco under the gorgeous canopy of stars. The heated swimming pool for cooling off and sunbeds for soaking up the rays or reading under the shade of the canopy of sails!
